Guitar neck sitting at the wrong angle? These precision neck pocket shims fix high action, saddles bottomed out with nowhere left to go, or a neck angle that just won't play right, without reaching for a business card, a sliver of wood, or a pricey brand-name shim. Designed alongside local luthiers and already working in local guitar shops, this 3 pack gives you the three angles that cover most bolt-on setups.

"Don't overpay for the StewMac shims... These are high quality and very precise. They fit in my neck pocket perfectly and fixed my Jazzmaster like magic."

Why these beat wood shims

  • True tapered angles. Each shim tapers to almost nothing at the thin end, so the neck sits flat in the pocket instead of rocking on a lump.
  • Humidity resistant. Rigid plant-based bioplastic won't swell, warp, or compress over time like wood can.
  • Drop-in ready. No cutting, sanding, or guesswork. Loosen the neck, drop the shim in, tighten it back up.
  • Marked for easy ID. The angle is printed right on each shim, so you always know which one is in the guitar.
  • Made in Michigan. Designed, printed, and shipped from Michigan by a player, for players.

Built for

Guitar techs and luthiers, players setting up their own bolt-on guitars, home modders and parts builds, and anyone stocking a guitar maintenance kit. Works with Strat, Tele, Jazzmaster, Jaguar, and other bolt-on neck styles with a four-bolt pocket.

Quick answers

Which angle do I need?

Start with the .5° for most guitars. If your action is still high or the saddles are still bottomed out, step up to the 1.0°. If it overshoots, the .25° gets you there.

Which way does the shim go in?

Thick end toward the body end of the pocket tilts the neck back to lower the action. Flip it the other way if you need to raise it.

Will it fit my guitar?

If your guitar has a bolt-on neck with a standard four-bolt pocket, yes. Not sure? Send us a message and we'll check before you order.

Finally. Someone makes high quality neck shims that aren’t 4ft thick. These go pretty much to zero on the thin end. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! Going to grab a few more sets just to keep in my toolbox.

So glad you liked them! very proud of this design and I'm happy it works for you!
